Andrew Douglas

Justice Andrew Douglas is the Senior Associate Justice on the Ohio Supreme Court. He is a lifelong resident of the City of Toledo, the father of four children and a graduate of the University of Toledo College of Law. Justice Douglas engaged in the private practice of law for twenty years (1960 through 1980) and was a partner in the law firm of Winchester & Douglas. He also served as a member of the Toledo City Council for nineteen years (1961 through 1980).

Justice Douglas was elected to the Sixth District Court of Appeals in 1980 and served through 1984. Justice Douglas also sat, by appointment of the Chief Justice, as a trial judge during the years 1982 and 1983. He was first elected to the Supreme Court of Ohio in 1984. Justice Douglas was reelected in 1990 and, on November 5, 1996, he was reelected to a third six-year term on the Ohio Supreme Court.

He is a former Special Counsel to the Attorney General of Ohio and has been an Assistant Adjunct Professor at both the Ohio Dominican College (Columbus) and the University of Toledo. He has been an instructor for the Ohio Judicial Conference and the Ohio Judicial College. Justice Douglas is a member of the Toledo, Lucas County and Ohio State Bar Associations. He is a Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation and a member of the American Judicature Society. Justice Douglas is a veteran, having served in both the Infantry and the Signal Corps of the United States Army with the rank of First Lieutenant.
