(Jan. 28, 2010) The Supreme Court of Ohio today imposed an indefinite suspension against the law license of Shaker Heights attorney William Kaplan for multiple violations of state attorney discipline rules.
In a 7-0 per curiam opinion, the Court adopted findings by the Board of Commissioners on Grievances & Discipline that Kaplan neglected bankruptcy cases for which he had accepted fee advances from three different clients, failed to keep those clients advised about developments in their cases or respond in a timely way to their inquiries, and failed to maintain a record documenting fees he had received from a client. The Court also found that Kaplan, who did not file an answer to the complaint filed against him with the disciplinary board or appear for a hearing on those charges, violated the state bar governance rule requiring attorneys to fully cooperate with disciplinary investigations.
