Teaching Tips Tool Available
The Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College recently released a preparation tool for its volunteer faculty and other instructors who teach at continuing education courses for judges, magistrates and court personnel. Called “Teaching Tips for Ohio Judicial College Faculty,” the quick-reference publication provides guidance on:
- Understanding adult learners
- The four steps of course planning
- Selecting among the most effective teaching methods
- Using the visual support aids that best support learning objectives
- Opening, maintaining and closing a presentation
- Evaluating faculty performance and participant achievement.
“We developed the brochure specifically with Judicial College faculty in mind,” said Christy Tull, Judicial College manager of curriculum development. “But the principles would apply to any course or presentation with an adult audience.”
Supreme Court staff modeled its publication after a similar brochure issued by the California Center for Judicial Education and Research. The document is available on the Supreme Court website.
