Justice Stratton Speaks at Substance Abuse Treatment Conference

Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton gave welcoming remarks Tuesday, April 1, at the two-day Statewide Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Conference.

Hosted by the Supreme Court and the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, this year’s conference theme was “Invest in Ohio’s Future: Promising Practices and Partnerships.”

“Far too often, Ohio’s judicial system must deal with adolescents with substance abuse problems,” Justice Stratton said. “As a long-time supporter of specialized treatment services for drug and alcohol offenders, I know that Ohio’s drug courts have been working to ensure that offenders receive the help they need through frequent judicial monitoring and community-based treatment.”

Of the 200 participants at the conference, about half came from the juvenile court system and the other half were treatment providers that serve juveniles with substance abuse problems. Attendees also heard from ODADAS Director Angela Cornelius and nationally known speakers on the topic.
