Justice O'Connor Addresses State Prosecuting Attorneys

Justice Maureen O'Connor of the Supreme Court of Ohio provided the keynote address Nov. 29, 2007 at the annual Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association Awards Banquet at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.

“As a former county prosecuting attorney, I was honored to be asked to address the members of the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association,” Justice O'Connor said. “Prosecutors fulfill their duty to seek justice on behalf of all citizens and promote the interests of the individual victims of crime. They represent the best of public service by their dedication and integrity.”

The event was held during the annual conference of the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association and recognized the accomplishments of assistant prosecutors. The association is a nonprofit organization that supports the 88 elected county prosecutors in Ohio.

Justice O'Connor was elected in 2002 as the 148th Justice on the Supreme Court of Ohio and the seventh woman to serve on the Court. She has experience as a practicing attorney, magistrate, common pleas judge, and prosecuting attorney. In 1998, she was elected as lieutenant governor and was the governor's chief advisor on criminal justice issues, serving as director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, and as chair of Ohio's Security Task Force and the State Building Security Review Committee.
