Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Maureen O’Connor last night conducted the swearing-in ceremony of board members for the Ohio Federation of Soil & Water Conservation Districts (OFSWCD). The ceremony was part of the OFSWCD’s 65th Annual Meeting held at the Renaissance Hotel in Columbus.
“It was an honor to swear in the more than 100 new board members,” said Justice O’Connor. “The Ohio Federation of Soil & Water Conservation Districts’ leadership in promoting better stewardship of the state’s natural resources is to be commended.” OFSWCD represents and serves the 88 conservation districts in Ohio to provide leadership and support to the board supervisors, soil and water conservation districts, and their partners through grassroots programs that promote natural resource stewardship. The districts provide soil erosion prevention and water management assistance to urban and agricultural land users.
Justice O’Connor was elected in 2002 as the 148th Justice on the Supreme Court of Ohio and the seventh woman to serve on the Court. She has experience as a practicing attorney, magistrate, common pleas judge, and prosecuting attorney. In 1998, she was elected as lieutenant governor and was the governor’s chief advisor on criminal justice issues, serving as director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, and as chair of Ohio’s Security Task Force and the State Building Security Review Committee.
