Justice O’Connor Delivers Message at Dayton Event

Justice Maureen O’Connor of the Supreme Court of Ohio spoke Monday to a gathering of Dayton Bar Association members. The event was part of the association’s continuing legal education seminars.

“I always enjoy responding to invitations to talk about the Supreme Court and appellate advocacy,” Justice O’Connor said. “It is a good thing for attorneys to be able to hear from a member of the Court as to what constitutes quality appellate work. I also think that it is a good thing for me, as a justice, to hear what is on the minds of appellate attorneys.”

Justice O’Connor was elected in 2002 as the 148th Justice on the Supreme Court of Ohio and the seventh woman to serve on the Court. She has experience as a practicing attorney, magistrate, common pleas judge, and prosecuting attorney. In 1998, she was elected as lieutenant governor and was the governor’s chief advisor on criminal justice issues, serving as director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, and as chair of Ohio’s Security Task Force and the State Building Security Review Committee.
