Justice Lanzinger Swears In New Members of Board of Commissioners on Grievances & Discipline

Justice Judith Ann Lanzinger of the Supreme Court of Ohio conducted the swearing-in ceremonies of new members of the Board of Commissioners on Grievances & Discipline Feb. 8. Judge Arlene Singer of the 6th District Court of Appeals was sworn in as chairwoman and Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster was sworn in as vice chairman.

“As a former commissioner myself, I am aware of the amount of time these dedicated members volunteer on disciplinary cases. The public is well-served by the important work of the board in upholding the integrity of the legal profession,” Justice Lanzinger said.

Justice Lanzinger served on the Board of Commissioners on Grievances & Discipline from 1988 to 1990 while she was a common pleas judge in Lucas County. The board is composed of 28 members, appointed by the Supreme Court. Four are public members, seven are active or retired judges, and 17 are lawyers from throughout the state. The board issues findings and recommendations to the Court on ethical misconduct complaints lodged against Ohio attorneys and judges.

Justice Lanzinger was elected in 2004 as the 150th Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio and previously served on the 6th District Court of Appeals for Ohio, the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas and the Toledo Municipal Court. Her experience at all levels of the court system allows her a unique perspective of the Ohio judiciary.  She currently chairs the Supreme Court’s Commission on Superintendence, which recommends rules for all Ohio courts. As a former elementary and high school teacher, Justice Lanzinger enjoys speaking to the community about the judicial process. She also teaches regularly at the Ohio and National Judicial Colleges.
