Franklin County Court of Common Pleas - Probation Officer

Annual Starting Salary: $34,755

Essential Functions

This classified position reports to a Classification Manager and ultimately the Chief Probation Officer. The Probation Officer is responsible for the supervision of individuals placed on community control by the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas including contacts with probationers in the community. The Probation Officer: conducts pre-sentence/post-sentence reports and other necessary reports for the court; enforces conditions of probation set by the court; maintains case records; develops supervision plans; makes referrals to appropriate community service agencies and monitors those referrals; issues arrest, hold, and release orders and arrests probationers in violation of court ordered conditions of probation. Some positions may perform extensive field work. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Chief P.O.

Physical Demands

Work involves a significant amount of standing, walking, sitting, talking, listening, stooping and reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to transfer up to 50 pounds. Visual ability sufficient to operate equipment. May also involve running and performing office and field arrests.

Qualifications

Required:  Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in social sciences, psychology, sociology or criminology; good written/oral communication skills; knowledge and application of computer systems; must hold and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license with a good driving record

Preferred:  Experience in probation, parole, social casework or counseling; knowledge of the criminal justice system
