Court Management Professionals Gather for Spring Conference

Court management professionals from around Ohio are attending the spring conference of the Ohio Association for Court Administration (OACA) this week at the Ohio Judicial Center.

As the professional association of court managers established in 1973, OACA consists of more than 160 members from all court jurisdictions and court-related agencies and focuses on enhancing their professional development and leadership skills, improving the administration of justice through modern management practices and providing legislative and policy updates.

OACA’s two annual conferences offer continuing legal education opportunities and a chance to hear from leaders in the fields of court technology, personnel management, financial management, team building, court security and other areas of interest for court managers.

Supreme Court of Ohio Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer kicked off the first full day’s activities today with welcoming remarks. Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton also welcomed attendees.

In his remarks Chief Justice Moyer praised Ohio courts for expanding “the concept of justice by instituting programs and procedures designed to improve the administration of justice for all, and to ensure fair and accessible courts. Our progress – well-trained staff, current court dockets and efficient technology – is due to the work you do each day, and your commitment to the fair and efficient administration of the rule of law.”

Other scheduled sessions at the conference include a panel discussion on CourtTools, a set of 10 trial court performance measures developed by the National Center for State Courts; a discussion on the benefits of membership in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System; and a Supreme Court update from Steve Hollon, administrative director for the Supreme Court. The conference continues through Friday morning.
