Scholarships Available for Capital Law School Minority Mediator Training

The Supreme Court of Ohio is providing a limited number of scholarships for minority professionals to cover the cost of mediation training at Capital University Law School.

The Third National Minority Professionals in Alternative Dispute Resolution Training Institute will be held June 2-6 at Capital. Ohio court-connected mediators and interpreters providing services to a court mediation program or anyone an Ohio court hopes to use in these capacities are invited to apply. The scholarships will cover registration fees for a limited number of applicants for trainings on basic mediation, truancy mediation, employment discrimination mediation and a course on understanding the conflicts that arise from the impact of poverty. Ohio court mediation programs and mediators have been notified by email about the existence of these scholarships.

“One of the purposes of the Dispute Resolution Section at the Supreme Court is to deliver high quality ADR trainings to court mediation programs,” said Crevon Tarrance, program manager in the section. “We collaborate in initiatives like this because they benefit Ohio courts by increasing the availability of qualified minority mediators.”

Scholarship applicants must complete and submit a scholarship application form as well as a training institute registration form and fax both to Tarrance at 614.387.9409 by April 10. Anyone interested in applying may obtain the forms by contacting Tarrance at tarrancc@sconet.state.oh.us. Information on the training institute is available at: www.law.capital.edu/adr. Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 14.
