Supreme Court Seeks Comments on Case Management Rules

The Supreme Court of Ohio will accept public comment until Dec. 2 on proposed amendments to rules concerning the Court’s Case Management Section, which helps local courts improve caseflow management and collects and analyzes statistical information from local courts.

The proposed amendments to Rules 35 and 37 of the Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio were recommended to the Supreme Court by the Commission on the Rules of Superintendence.

Amendments to Sup. R. 35 would replace outdated language referring to the Court Statistical Reporting Section. Sup. R. 37 outlines the statistical reports and information Ohio courts must submit to the Case Management Section. Amendments to the rule include a new requirement for judges to submit information on local capital case indictments and the outcome of those cases to the Case Management Section. These capital crime statistics will be submitted along with the monthly case reports that courts already provide.

Under the current rule, local capital case information is submitted by the county clerks of court.

Comments should be submitted in writing to: Jo Ellen Cline, Government Relations Counsel, Supreme Court of Ohio, 65 S. Front St., Seventh Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or clinej@sconet.state.oh.us.
