Supreme Court Increases Public Awareness With Launch of Web Site Redesign
The Supreme Court of Ohio today launched a comprehensive redesign of its Web site, www.supremecourtofohio.gov. The site includes important new functions and is part of an ongoing effort by the Court and Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer to use information technology to increase public trust and confidence in the judiciary by expanding public access and understanding of Ohio's court system.
“In a democracy, it is important that the public has an understanding of how its governing bodies operate,” Chief Justice Moyer said. “The launch of this site marks a significant accomplishment in the Court's continuing efforts to increase public awareness of the judiciary and its proceedings.”
The redesign features improved site navigation and a new, Google-driven search page, which enables visitors to more easily locate information with its advanced search option.
In addition, the site contains links to other recently implemented technological features, such as live and archived streaming video of oral arguments. At supremecourtofohio.gov, with the click of a mouse, Ohioans can search case opinions and summaries, view Court publications and access general information about the Supreme Court Justices, the history of the Court and the Court's jurisdiction and authority. The site also features information regarding Court boards, commissions and task forces and codes of conduct for judges and attorneys.
Other recent public education and information initiatives at the Court include placing the case docket online, creating an online database of all Ohio attorneys and opening the Supreme Court of Ohio Visitor Education Center, which has interactive displays and exhibits to teach citizens about the role and function of the judiciary and the history of the Supreme Court.
