Justice O'Connor Speaks Before International Security Organization

Justice Maureen O'ConnorJustice Maureen O'Connor of the Supreme Court of Ohio provided the keynote address Thursday at a meeting of the security organization ASIS International's Columbus Chapter.

Her speech, which was given at the Medallion Country Club in Westerville, Ohio, focused on security issues affecting Ohio's courts.

“I enjoyed speaking to the members of ASIS and sharing with them what the Supreme Court is doing through the Task Force on Court Security & Emergency Preparedness,” Justice O'Connor said.

Founded in 1955 as the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), which later changed its name to ASIS International, is the preeminent international organization for professionals responsible for security. With more than 34,000 members around the world, it is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security practices.

Justice O'Connor was elected in 2002 as the 148th Justice on the Supreme Court of Ohio and the seventh woman to serve on the Court. She has experience as a practicing attorney, magistrate, common pleas judge, and prosecuting attorney. In 1998, she was elected as lieutenant governor and was the governor's chief advisor on criminal justice issues, serving as director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, and as chair of Ohio's Security Task Force and the State Building Security Review Committee.
