Hagerott Joins Supreme Court Dispute Resolution Section

Jacqueline C. HagerottExperienced mediator and attorney Jacqueline C. Hagerott has joined the Supreme Court of Ohio to provide leadership and direction for all aspects of the Dispute Resolution Section of the Court.

As manager of the Dispute Resolution Section, Hagerott will help lead the development of state-of-the-art dispute resolution programs, such as mediation, and training for courts throughout the state.

Hagerott has an extensive background with experience in the business, legal, accounting and academic arenas. She also has more than nine years of experience as a mediator applying dispute resolution alternatives in the Ohio courts system.

Most recently, as a faculty member at Franklin University where she also served as an associate dean and academic appeal officer, she designed a number of courses in the business administration program, integrating conflict management principles throughout the curriculum.

“Dispute resolution programs, such as mediation, promote high quality outcomes because the parties create the end results and they develop life-long problem solving and communication skills to prevent and resolve future disputes,” said Hagerott, who has a law degree and a Master of Laws (LL.M) with a concentration in dispute resolution from Capital University Law School, as well as degrees in accounting and management.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to expand dispute resolution resources, furthering the confidence in the Ohio judicial system by creating platforms for outcomes that are in the best interests of the citizens of Ohio,” Hagerott said.

When the Supreme Court established the Office of Dispute Resolution in 1992, there were just seven court-connected mediation programs in Ohio. Today, citizens in nearly all Ohio counties have access to such resources.

“Mediation is effective because it provides disputing parties the tools to develop their own solution,” said Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer. “It is an effective method for crafting long-term solutions.”

In her position, Hagerott will work closely with the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Dispute Resolution to continue to make Ohio a national leader in the field of dispute resolution.
