Judge Robert R. Cupp will be sworn-in Tuesday, Jan. 2, as the 151st Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio in a ceremony held in the Supreme Court Courtroom of the Ohio Judicial Center. Judge Cupp recently was elected to fill the seat vacated by retiring Justice Alice Robie Resnick. His term begins Jan. 2.
Justice Terrence O'Donnell who was re-elected to the Court will be sworn-in at a separate ceremony Jan. 10 in the Courtroom.
Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer, the second-longest serving Chief Justice in Ohio history, will give the oath of office. Judge Cupp comes from the 3rd District Court of Appeals, which serves 17 counties in northwest and west central Ohio.

In addition, the public is invited to a special live showing in Lima of Judge Cupp's swearing-in ceremony at 4 p.m., Jan. 2, at the Lima Public Library, 650 West Market Street.

Judge Cupp's legal career stretches three decades and includes 16 years as a member of the Ohio Senate and service as Lima City Prosecutor and Allen County Commissioner. He served on the appeals court since 2003.
Judge Cupp received his undergraduate degree in political science from Ohio Northern University and his juris doctorate from Ohio Northern's Pettit College of Law. He also has served as a visiting professor at the university, teaching judicial process and a leadership studies seminar.
Judge Cupp and his wife, Libby, have two sons, Matthew and Ryan.
