Current Project Information

  1. Monitoring Sentence Reform – The Commission awarded a contract to Case Western Reserve University to gather, compile data and identify trends regarding criminal sentence reform and other legislation impacting criminal sentencing enacted since HB86 in September 2011. Data collection and reports are forthcoming.

Justice Reinvestment – Sara, the Principal Researcher for the Case Western Reserve University contract and a researcher from DRC (the Ohio Team) participated in an Urban Institute and Bureau of Justice Assistance, Justice Reinvestment Initiative Performance Measurement Convening on Oct. 5 and 6, 2016, in Washington, DC. The conference was cosponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and The Pew Charitable Trusts and aims to improve the quality, consistency, and use of performance measures across JRI states.

  2. Data Analytics to Improve Public Safety Outcomes – The Commission and the University of Cincinnati, Institute of Crime Science (ICS) have partnered for a data analytics pilot project in Scioto County, Using Data to Improve Public Safety and Criminal Justice Outcomes. The project recognizes criminal justice indicators are wide-ranging and complex. Determining if, where, and to what extent, criminal justice data indicators are available, accessible and consumable and then seeking viable ways to catalog and analyze that information will provide a platform to recommend legislative and policy strategies to improve outcomes for Ohio’s citizens by creating safer, fairer, and a more cost-efficient use of resources in our criminal justice system.
  3. Ohio Justice System Maps – The maps illustrate Ohio’s Justice System(s) – draft visualizations for juvenile, misdemeanant and adult are complete. Future work on the diagrams will include additional illustrative information for specific points on the map.
